I inherited a failing Monstera and saved these three pieces that sat in water for a few weeks and developed these very small roots. Reading Reddit plant posts I’ve come to understand I do things differently than most folks here. My question to you is are these ready to stick into soil?

Some will say yes and some would say no. A lot think the roots should be 2” long before planting. I don’t think thot matters as much. I’d go ahead and plant in a shallow pot. Then mist water when the top gets dry to keep the shallow roots moist.

I root in thick perlite. Works a lot like soil as far as stronger than water alone type prop set-ups.

I prefer to wait until the roots are a tangled mess in the vase of water I have them sitting in. I add fertilizer to the water and try to keep them in water as long as possible because it’s so much easier than maintaining a plant in soil that could potentially get overwatered. They are so delicate when they are young.

Everyone is going to give you different opinions on this & there’s no right answer.

My personal opinion is… what’s the rush? More roots = better success rate. I usually wait at least till I see new growth emerging.

Either way, you want the pot to be about the size of the root ball when you move it to soil
