We are on 60 acres of mostly wooded land. Our LGDs have free run of about 40 acres. We don’t want the dogs crossing the dirt road to the other 20 acres. There is very little traffic on this road but there is nothing across the road we need them to keep safe. We have been using the Sportdog Tek2 system and until recently have been very satisfied. But Sportdog has discontinued the Tek 2 and lately its performance has been disappointing.
I’m looking at the Halo5 collar and am seeing somewhat mixed reviews. I’m looking for input from people who are or have used the Halo5 system. My biggest concern is that we have spotty cell coverage Don the property. We have AT&T service and the coverage isn’t the best. But I have heard other cell services do better. Halo claims the system finds the best signal and uses it regardless of service provider.
Thanks in advance for any input. Yea the picture of Elvira and Morticia was used as an attention getter.

I don’t have an LGD any longer, but do have an active GSP who has access to both farms. We use SpotOn e-collar. It allows you to draw virtual “fences” to contain the dog. We have never installed the shock nodes, and just use the beep sounds. If you did need the stronger training, you would probably need to shear some wool. But the collar tracks in real time if you want, has the ability to recall the pup with sound/shock. Part of our farm is heavy wooded & off grid, and it works most of the time.
