Is there a reason people use silicone, and can I use hot glue as replacement?

You can use hot glue as a temporary hold for the silicone to set. Hot glue will not last long term, silicone will.

  2. Hot glue will fall off of glass after a very short time. Silicone actually holds on to glass for the long term. Ask me how I know

for some things hotglue is okay like stcking wood or other decorative hings together ….it wont hold up for long on glass though. :/

Hot glue looses strength pretty quickly in humidity

I use hot glue to install almost everything after the background is complete. But it won’t work for the background.
