Hi all! I'd love any feedback on the plant selection for our front landscaping plan. I'd also welcome suggestions for gap fillers as there is currently bare space around the dogwood feature trees. We are not planning to add turf to the front, will be mulching in between whatever we plant. Hoping to keep the colour palette cool toned and plants fairly low maintenance. Not afraid of some colour.

The garden is south facing but does get 1-3 hours of direct sun in the afternoon (depending on the time of year) and the larger front beds will get a bit more sun throughout the day

Not built yet: steps to the front door and the front fence/pedestrian gate.

Also the path is shaped the way it is because we had to work around several landmarks including a really shallow storm water pipe/riser (don't ask)

I think your plan will look really pretty. I do have a few suggestions.

If you want your blueberries to be productive, they will need more sun than where you have placed them. I would put them on the opposite corners – in the curves next to the dogwoods, facing the house so they get Northern light. Make sure their soil is slightly acidic.

If you want a lowgrowing groundcover that handles sun and shade, try evolvulus – beautiful blue flowers throughout most of the year, grey-green foliage, they spread to about a square metre each, don’t need fertiliser (although they don’t hate it), grow happily in whatever soil. They would be good around the dogwoods. Tuberose begonias are equally low maintenance – their leaves are a bit brighter green, flowers are whites and pinks. They might be good under and around the hydrangeas. Flower in sun or shade, most of the year, don’t care what soil they are in, don’t mind wet or dry.

I don’t like magnolias with their bright brown undersides, and their white flowers look brown unless you’re constantly deadheading. But a lot of people seem to love them.

Hydrangeas need quite a bit of water so make sure there is a plan to keep that water away from the bricks of the house like a barrier or a drain channel.
