Just planted a 4.5 meter betula utilis jacquemontii ‘doorenbos’ in my garden.

Lovely day to plant a tree, took about 3 hours but got there eventually.

This variety of birch is known as Doorenbos or sometimes sold as ‘snow queen’.

It’s Himalayan birch and reaches a nice medium size with an oval shape.

I’ve wanted one for quite some time and finally ordered one from a company called ornamental trees. Highly recommend them.

I got this size because the tree will be growing in the middle of a pyracantha hedge row.

And not just any old pyracantha, it’s a new variety called ‘orange star’ which is the first thornless pyracantha. All the beautiful berries and foliage and no thorns to worry about.

The birch will grow towards the front of the hedge so the white trunk will be somewhat visible through the foliage of the hedge.

Very happy with the quality of the tree which has been pruned and grown to a high standard.

I also purchased an underground irrigation tube so the roots get a proper drink through the spring and summer months.
