Perlite or moss, both should work just fine. If you use moss, just make sure it isn’t too wet

I personally would opt for perlite!

Fluval stratum worked best for the few dozen corms and a couple much smaller bulbs, perlite also worked on a couple but seemed to not grow as fast. The few I tried to start directly in a chunky soil mix still all rotted, but ones I only re-potted in soil after two leaves were out seem to be doing fine.
I also found that heat and some have really helped my success rate too. It’s winter here and I had a few corms doing nothing until I put them on a plug-in seed starting mat that keeps them a bit warmer than everything else.

Anything BUT soil- literally! Bonus points if you place a wick in the perlite.
