I got this tree for free a few months ago from the city, and I had my landscape helper plant it. It’s had a leaning problem, and I read on here that he needs to stand up and gross on his own, so I just now noticed how much roots are exposed. I wonder if some of the dirt was washed away from rain that we’ve had… But, this doesn’t look right to me. What should I do?

Never too much root flare. I would cover that top whirl of roots. This is still better than too deep
I don’t see a root flare, those all look like adventitious roots to me.
