Hi there, I’m pretty new to the plant community and recently got a philodendron cutting from facebook marketplace place for only $5! I’ve tried to do research on them, but I still don’t understand why it grew like this. I’m pretty sure it was propagated in water. The first pic is how I got it, the second pic is how I potted it. Do I need to cut the leaves that are partially in the soil?

In my experience, philodendrons do what they want. It’s part of their charm.

I may be wrong but I worry about how deep it’s buried.

Your soil looks like peat moss. Add some perlite and chunky bark or it will suffocate the roots.

I would repot it with some of the stem sticking out of the soil. Not all of the roots will be under but that’s okay.
