You can see the space I have, maybe 10’x20’, roughly.
Northern California, lows around freezing in the winter, highs over 100 in the summer. I need something warm for the cold winters.
I have no idea where to begin. Polycarbonate? I know I need lots of windows and vents.
Any brands that are proven to not be junk? I’m thinking I’d probably make some kind of frame on the ground and fill in with chipped rock as a base. But I’m ALL ears.
Educate a brother, would you?

Hoop house.
I hand bend top rail, and use chain link posts. 1.5″ emt conduit will slide over the top rail. I cut a 90 in half and use each half to connect the post to the hoop. Greenhouse poly sheeting is the cheapest covering, double inflated if you use heat. Frame the end walls with big doors, and you can also make your own roll up sides.
Treated 2×4’s for the frame, something like Solexx polycarbonate for the roof, and you can use that on the sides or mix it up with some insulated siding and recycled windows. This way you can create your own design to fit the space and your needs. Plan ahead on how you will get power and water to it.
I should add I’m leaning toward a greenhouse that I just assemble. Not sure I want to build from scratch.
NorCal 9b in da’ house! We are just now finishing the first of 2 (maybe 3) hoop houses. The frame and fabric were only $220 but, we like to make things more functional and aesthetically pleasing so we built it up for more clearance, and put shelving in. Still laying the floor and adding an external plant shelf on the one long side. This hoop house sits beneath a few oak trees so that will help keep it cooler in the summers. We have 3 cat inspectors. This is Geo… she’s the structural inspector, then another one is the plant inspector, and the third… well, we haven’t figured out what he’s good for yet ROFLMAO!
