Tonganoxie basketball

Alyssa Schoeneck scored a game-high 32 points as the Tonganoxie High girls basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the Garden City Roundball Classic on Thursday in Scott City.

THS outscored Scott City in every quarter but the third — when both teams scored 14 — and the Chieftains improved to 2-0. The Beavers, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2.

Tonganoxie will meet Garden City in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Garden City. THS will take on the host school on Friday. GCHS improved to 2-0 after defeating Lawrence Free State (3-1) by a 60-42 score Thursday in Garden City.

The Chieftains and Buffaloes will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at GCHS in the girls semifinals. Ottawa and Hugoton are playing in the other semifinal game.

Scott City outlasts Tonganoxie boys

Tonganoxie got down, 22-8, in the first quarter, but rattled off 22 points of its own in the second quarter and had a three-point lead at one point Thursday, but Scott City would get the lead and keep it. Tonganoxie got as close as three points in the second half, but SCHS pulled away for the 56-45 victory.

Nolan McGuire scored 20 and Lachlan McRae 19 in the loss. THS fell to 0-2 with the loss and will play Garden City in the consolation semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday at GCHS.
