Do you have a favorite Christmas movie? The the the the Grinch. Oh, it’s changed over the years, but I think The Grinch, and we always quote it, but this video has nothing to do with The Grinch. Oh, well, that’s my favorite movie. My favorite movie is also The Grinch. But my second favorite movie is Home Alone. So, we had an idea to turn our house into the house from Home Alone. They don’t actually get to see it yet. You have to keep watching this video. It’s just all pixelated. We’re just We’re here sitting here clear. Everything else is pixelated. Actually, the dog is unpixelated. I just love that movie. I’ve always loved that movie as a kid. All of the white lights on the house, the whole house in general, the decor, the vibes, the being left alone at Christmas time. Nothing like it. Yeah, the Home Alone house was always just impressive. it was. So, in order to make this happen, we had to do some research. We rewatched the movie, we took notes, and then got down to planning. The house in the movie uses warm white Christmas lights and a wreath on the front door, which is simple enough, but we could do better than that. Now, at quick glance, our house looks nothing like the house from the movie. So, we will have to work some decorating magic to make this happen. Keep the change, you filthy animal. Cheapcate. Bye-bye pumpkins. Let’s review the plan for today. I’m thinking garland, lights, decorative pillows, and then of course we’re going to need Harry and Marv and Kevin Mallister. What am I missing? I’m actually not reading a list. It’s the grocery list. Ginger ale, case of pop, Alfredo sauce, and fetuccini. If we can pull this off, it’s going to be some good Christmas decorating. Okay, let’s get started. You feel the animal? Let’s review what we have. White Christmas light. Oh, white Christmas lights. Santa. And then it’s more Christmas lights, more wreaths, timers, garland, and then artificial trees for the porch. We’re We’re what? We I was going to say we didn’t buy any Christmas decorations for the porch this year because I spent the budget last year. You only buy this stuff once anyway. You reuse it every year. That’s right. We didn’t have any before, so we had to get it. So, we’re reusing everything we used in last year’s video, plus a little more, which you guys will see very soon. What’s the little more? Harriet. Oh, right. Right. And Kevin Mallister. Right. So, because I blew the budget last year on Christmas decorations, I already have the command hooks from last year around all the windows. For some reason, when I think of Home Alone, I thought that they had wreaths on all the windows, which I guess was um what do they call that? Not a placebo effect, but a deja vu. No, it’s when you remember something that didn’t actually happen. Uh, narcissist. No, baby. Andrew just learned what a narcissist is. Okay. How’s it look everybody? Let’s ask the audience. Last year when I hung the garland from the stairs here, all of you were saying that I should have hung it on the inside of the railing instead of on the outside the way that I did it. Um, so I did plan to listen to you, but if we’re not drooping it this year, I could just do it straight along the top. Look at these dogs when they have to be involved. He’s got his coat on. Whoa. Jeez, that scared me. I thought you fell. How did my grade 8 grand photo get out here? Can you just help me with getting this into that pot? Cute. Okay. Okay, those work. Cute. So, one of the things about Mallister’s house is they put lights in all of the trees in the front of their house. So, we’re going to try and recreate that with the two strands of lights that we have. Merry Christmas. Oh my gosh, I forgot I bought those last year. I was so excited because it was our first Christmas after finishing the renovation. So, I did do a little bit of spending because we had more room than we had in previous years to decorate. Like, we never had a front porch before. So, I splurged a little, but I’m glad I did because now I get to use everything this year. Up we go. While Andrew’s on the roof, I want to give you guys a really quick bow making tutorial. You can buy the big spools of ribbon from any craft store. Usually cheaper than it would cost to buy a bunch of pre-made bows. If you’re like me and you need a lot of bows in your Christmas decorating, it is a hack that I learned online myself, but it does help in creating really beautiful bows. You could use it in your decorating or on your presents. It’s kind of odd, but the bigger you space your feet out, the bigger the bow can be. So, you sit on the floor, put your feet on the one side of the ribbon, you crisscross your ribbon over the top of your feet, and then bring it around to the back. You’re gonna tie the ribbon around. It’s sealing it all together. Okay. So, you’ll have one tail at the top, one at the bottom. You’re gonna bring it around to the middle and then tie a knot, which seals your whole bow together. Then, when you pull it off of your feet, you’ll have to do a little bit of juzjing with the ribbon. And then with the middle section, just kind of pulling it, making it a little bit fuller if needed. And then I like to take my ribbon and trim the little tails. Fold it in half and create a cut upward from the corner. So it creates a really pretty detail on the bottom of your ribbon. So cute. You okay? I think so. Oh my god, he’s so heavy. It’s so cute here. We have to keep it at the front of the house. I want to look at it every day. It looks like a winter wonderland. I wish it would stay like this by the time you guys see the final reveal of this video, but it is all supposed to melt by like tomorrow. But in the meantime, we have a little bit more decorating to do. We have our Aly statue that we got off Facebook. We were watching Home Alone the other night on Christmas Eve when Kevin is putting out his cookies for Santa in the actual movie. Right next to the fireplace, there’s a dog statue that looks exactly like this. So sweet. Can you see the bow? Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That’s perfect. Oh, it’s perfect. Next up is decorating our beautiful lanterns. None of this relates to the movie at all. Actually, the further we get into the decorating, the further we’re getting away from the movie, but it’ll all make sense eventually. It’s Home Alone with our own spin on it. home alone while also always at home. What I currently have is the inexpensive garland, like the dollar store garland, but I think we need to forage and do something fuller because this looks sad, but I know that I can make it look good. That’s probably good for these, eh? I’ll let you cut. I’ll hold the branch down so you can get them. Okay. Just stay back until I pull it so it doesn’t fall on your head. All the snow. Oh. H. Is there anything you good you can get? You think? Are you allowed to do this? Why not? We’re pruning our tree. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Are you allowed to trim your tree? Well, I don’t know. I’m not trying to get cancelled by the tree community. The tree trimming community. You sure? Can you get that out of my hood? Holy. It’s right on your head, too. Oh, boy. Okay, that’s good. I think we need some darker foliage. You guys need to vote. I’ll do this one. You do that one. You guys can vote who the winner is, but we have to have some sort of like similarity. Okay. Do you know what you’re doing? I have no idea. I don’t know how to get these to stick. I like doing this with you. It’s fun, isn’t it? Mhm. I like doing this with you. Like I got a good system going now. You’re laughing, aren’t you? Nope. Trusting the process. Okay, I think I’m just about done. Me, too. Okay, I face you. Yeah. Okay. Ready? One, two, three. Dave, you did. I like yours better. Yours is all the same uh foliage, though. Yeah, that’s probably why I like it. Well, cuz I used all different stuff. And mine is a little bit bushy. Either one, I think, will be fine. I think it just needs like a little bit taken off the right side and then it’s fine. And then we’ll just move the bow up top and then they’re fine. It just it really needs a wreath on the top of that gable. So, we’re going to add a wreath. I hope you guys are enjoying today’s video. It’s our first one back after our little break. Technically, we still are on a break. So, I don’t know for sure when the next video will come out, but last year we shared a porch decorating video and I know a lot of you guys were looking forward to it again this year. So, I hope you are enjoying it. Make sure you like, comment, and subscribe. comment when you guys usually decorate for Christmas because in the world of creating content on the internet, you kind of got to start early because the season goes by really, really fast and it’s only a short amount of time that people really watch these kind of decorating videos. So, that’s usually why you see creators who start decorating the day after Halloween because they just got to get their videos up and done as soon as possible. Okay. It looks a little funny up close, but from a distance it does what it needs to do. I think that looks great. I love it. Time for phase two. What’s phase two? I don’t know. Phase two. Can’t see myself. Am I Am I Can I stand up straight or should I crouch? Phase two of the decorating involved incorporating all of the Home Alone elements into the decor, specifically Kevin Mallister, Marvin Harry, and the Christmas party. The Christmas party scene is probably one of the most important parts of the movie because that’s how he’s scaring away the bandits. You better get out of here before somebody sees us. Now, I want this to be done tastefully, okay? I’m not going for like tacky, so I don’t want to like overdo it. Big inflatables. Yeah, I guess you could go that route. If you do that, more power to you. I just don’t want to do that because the decorating already looks so nice, which you’ll see by the end of this video. So, I want it to be tasteful home alone. I had a thought. What if we were to project the Christmas scene onto this big window? So, then from outside, you could see the Christmas party. Genius. So, in order to do that, I have my handy dandy projector. This is the Cosmos 4K SE Nebula smart projector cuz I know somebody’s going to ask. It’s a great projector. It’s a smart projector, so it connects to the internet. It is a more expensive projector, so I will tell you that. But for a project like this, it comes in handy. You could also use a traditional like inexpensive projector from Amazon. There’s lots of tutorials of how to do that online if you are interested. But for this, we’re just going to use our smart projector cuz it connects right to the internet. Okay. So, what I watched online said that you need to do something in the window to white it out, but not make it so that it’s opaque. It needs to be transparent enough that it projects the image from the inside of the house. And lucky for us, our shades actually do this. Pull the dark one first. No, it’s just it’s okay. Okay. Just like that. See? Transparent. Super easy, guys. He’s got Dumb and Dumber on him. Okay. So, in my research of how to make this happen, there was a couple different ways that we could go about it. In the actual movie, he obviously uses like cardboard and plastic dolls and a whole arrangement of things to make it look like people. I don’t really want that floating around our living room for the next 25 days. So, I remembered that I had seen for Halloween decor sometimes people will do projections through their windows. Somebody actually beat us to the punch and already made a Home Alone projection and posted it on YouTube. So, it’s as easy as just playing it on a 1-hour loop. And if everything works out, it should project right through the window and make it look like we’re having a Christmas party. There it is. Click it. Click it. Yeah. It’s going to play an ad first. Real strength isn’t pushing through the pain, it’s relieving it. Advil, that’s real strength. Okay, let’s see. Welcome aboard Canada. There it is. We’ll have to see how it looks from the outside. You want to go look? Yeah. Wait, that is so good. Okay, that’s hilarious. That’s really funny. Just wait till it’s darker. That’s so good. Oh, I don’t remember there being a dog in the movie. Is he in it? It’s part of the dinner party. The final step of our decorating is incorporating in the wet bandits and Kevin. We knew we wanted them to be able to withstand the elements outside, so we went online to Staples and printed off a 3ftx4 ft banner of the Bandits in a matte finish. We also printed a smaller poster version of Kevin. We had Staples laminate both pieces to prevent them from getting wet in the snow or fading in the sun. And about a week later, they were ready for pickup. This would be a great DIY for really any decorating where you need a life-siz cutout because they came out perfect and can be reused every year. Kevin, first step, we have to carefully cut out Kevin and then cut out Harry and Marv. Look at that. Just big enough piece. Oh, good. I’m glad I keep all my cut offs and such. So, I’m just going to trace it with a pencil. And you’re going to be the one with the jigsaw. And lucky for you, guess what? What? I’m going to get you to cut on the inside of the line. Look at us. We’re so Canadian. Cheers. Is this on? Hey. Yes. So Canadian, right? My black coffee. What is it? French vanilla. Now, we’re going to use Gorilla Spray adhesive to attach the print out to the piece of plywood. We talked about a different couple different We talked about a couple different ways of doing this. Um, hammer just using like the staples. Forget it. It’s okay. All surfaces should be clean, free of dirt, grease, and oil. Shake can well. I’m going to blur that whole thing. Why? Cuz they don’t need to see that. Oh. Hold the can 68 in from the surface to be bonded. Spray an even coat for maximum bond strength. Spray both surfaces. Allow to dry on one surface. Allow to dry 1 to 3 minutes before joining. So spray this one and while it’s like setting then you spray this one so that one can be drying up and this will still be tacky. Like you not really spraying that good, babe. Something wrong with this can. Why you dressed like a chicken? Tada. That came out perfect. Maybe we’ll sell these next year. Yeah, unless we do Home Alone again, but somebody would probably buy this for like a Christmas bazaar or their own decorating. Yeah. Oh my god.
