Is this too much layering? Aesthetic-wise, I only care that things don’t look too sporadic, so planting in big drifts/clumps I’m assuming will help that. Any other comments on this plan? The bed is east-facing and shaded by both the house to its west and some woods further to its east (hence the more sun-suited plants on the left of the image). Next season will be my first doing any sort of native gardening and major planting, so I’m a complete newbie. Just big ambitions to plant before I move out and have no land for who knows how long. I’m fine with maintaining things, so would occasional pruning of the aggressive species like zigzag goldenrod be appropriate? Or should I rethink some of the placement? Thanks!

Things will definitely spread! Some more than others. So it might look spaced out at first but things will fill in over time. I think you have too many of some of the “circles.” Do you have a local expert you can ask?

FYI Spicebush, Flames Azalea and bottlebrush Buckeye are not all going to be the same size. The first and last can get quite large.

Not too close for my taste! Reforest! Most plants love to be close and if they are all planted at once, they will make room for one another.
