Nasturtiums earn their spot in the garden every year. The large seeds are easy for kids to handle, and once the plants are established they often drop seeds and return on their own.

Both the blooms and leaves are edible, they can act as a trap crop, and pollinators are drawn to the flowers. They fit into vegetable beds, containers, and borders and add color while also working hard for the garden.

If you want an easy cool season flower that looks good and does a lot, nasturtiums are a great choice.

  1. Nasturtium is one of my favorite plants. I used to live on the second floor and my nasturtium would flow down off my balcony. I haven’t tried eating them yet, although I hear they’re good in salads.
