SASKATOON — A 27-year-old woman accused of assaulting a 75-year-old woman with a garden tool in the Eastview neighbourhood has been granted bail.
Gina Pearl Beatty had an appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Dec. 5 and is now scheduled back in court on Dec. 23 to enter a plea.
Beatty was arrested in August and charged with aggravated assault, assaulting a peace officer, breach of an undertaking and breach of probation.
The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 21 when Saskatoon police responded to a community garden in the 3100 block of Arlington Ave. shortly after 5:10 p.m. According to police, the senior citizen was gardening when she was approached by an unknown woman who then assaulted her with a gardening tool. The senior sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Officers arrested Beatty after they located her in a nearby treeline.
At the time of the incident, Beatty was serving a Conditional Sentence Order (CSO) to be served in the community and was on a three-year probation term following her 2022 conviction for arson. That conviction was related to a fire at a memorial centre in Prince Albert.
