I have this insanely long tree branch over my driveway. I always fear this tree branch will fall over my car or cause the whole tree collapse.

Which line color I should aim to cut the tree branch?
– black line: trim the tip of the branches
– blue line: cut according to the driveway concrete line
– red line: cut further in 1-2 ft. from the driveway concrete line

I love this tree…..I’d say don’t cut it until you have it assessed by a real arborist…or until it snaps! Does it look sick? is it dropping branches a lot?

Further back on all of them imo if necessary, talk with a professional

    Edit: always hide your cut

Much further back for me-Ideally back cleanly to the main trunk if it doesn’t spoil the overall shape of the tree.

Talk to an arborist IMO. This tree is gorgeous and looks healthy, depending on the species the wood might be strong enough that collapse isn’t really a concern.

If you do cut it back make sure you hire an arborist and not just a landscaping company. They’ll make the right cuts to do what you want and keep the tree as healthy as possible.

Always cut where branches split. If you cut a branch that has nothing growing out before the cut, that branch will die off.

    D) None of the above.
Call an arborist to inspect the tree for cracks, decay, hollows, and splits in the branches of concern and trunk. If they find anything, then have them quote you on raising the clearance over your driveway.

That’s a really odd looking tree. I don’t see how your cuts would prevent those branches falling. If they won’t break after you cut them, they were never going to break. I think if you’re going to prune, you need to prune more. Obviously, all that shade will disappear. And no matter how you cut, the tree won’t look natural for a couple of years. It’s hard to judge based only on this picture, but I would cut them like this:

That high horizontal branch is hard to judge. If you cut it more, the tree will have an even weirder shape. The easiest decision is that very low horizontal branch. It should have been cut long ago.

Bear in mind that I’m not a professional!

Neither. Cut all branches over the driveway. One day they will fall hopefully not on anyone or anything $$$$
