A Live Oak Tree was dedicated to Susie Bellamy for Arbor Day and is located in the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.

President Babs Johnston opened the Arbor Day Celebration by welcoming the guests and Driftwood members who attended. Celebrating with Driftwood were members of the North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Director Matt Gibbons, Jim Grainger, Jarrett Lewis, Bernie Lowe, Kaitlyn Nimmons and Gianna Forbis, Multimedia Coordinator.
Jill Roman presented the History of Arbor Day highlighting Driftwood’s participation. A Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana) Tree was planted and dedicated to the memory of our deceased member, Susie Chestnut Bellamy, in the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. Susie joined Driftwood in 1997 and was a dedicated member. Her enthusiasm was contagious and led the club with creative gardening ideas. Susie’s daughter, Carol B Thompson, attended the dedication and was presented with a certificate honoring Susie. Driftwood Garden Club has celebrated Arbor Day for the last sixty- three years.
Babs Johnston presented the Tree to the City of North Myrtle Beach. Jim Grainger from Parks and Recreation accepted it. Joan Schuster read a poem, “The Tree”, by Emily Dickinson. Linda Sweatt closed the celebration with a prayer.
