Color and design houses are making the rounds with their “color of the year” picks right now—some more controversial than others—but some establishments are serving their top choices for the year in other categories.
And because there’s always room for at least one more plant in the house, we’re excited to share the 2026 Plant of the Year from 1-800-Flowers.com. Not only is it a striking houseplant in appearance, but it’s super low maintenance and believed to bring on good fortune.

Meet the 2026 Plant of the Year
1-800-Flowers.com has officially named its 2026 Plant of the Year, and the honor goes to the money tree (Pachira aquatica). You know the saying about how money doesn’t grow on trees? It’s obviously true, but some believe that certain plants usher in more fortune than others, and the money tree finds itself at the very top of this list. The low-maintenance houseplant is truly gorgeous with its woven trunk and shiny green canopy of leaves, so it has good looks going for it.

With deep roots on East Asian cultural traditions, it’s also a symbol of luck, prosperity, and harmony. In feng shui, money trees are believed to attract positive energy, and their five-lobed leaves represent the five elements of balance:
Wood: growth, vitality, creativity, new beginningsFire: passion, energy, visibility, transformationEarth: stability, grounding, nourishment, balanceMetal: clarity, focus, precision, organizationWater: flow, abundance, intuition, calm
Why it Was Picked
“For 2026, we chose the money tree because it represents hope, positive energy, and the belief that good things are growing,” says Mallory Green, floral design lead at 1-800-Flowers.com. “People are craving grounding and a sense of wellbeing, and the money tree offers both. It’s resilient, lush, and tied to good fortune and prosperity, making it a meaningful choice for the year ahead.”
The company added that they chose the money tree for a few other factors, as well. First, they noted consumer purchasing trends and engagement data. It’s also a versatile piece of greenery, fitting into all sorts of aesthetics and being approachable enough whether you’re a newbie plant owner or a long-time botanical collector.
Care Tips
Planning to scoop one up? Green has some advice. “I recommend placing your money tree in bright, indirect sunlight and watering it only after the soil has dried out,” she says. “Be mindful not to overwater your plants, as it can cause root rot. Your plant will thrive if you use a well-draining potting mix to allow water to flow through the soil and keep it in temperatures between 60−75°F.”
The 2026 Flower of the Year
Along with selecting a plant of the year, 1-800-Flowers.com also picked a flower of the year, naturally. For 2026, it’s delphinium with its tall, elegant spires and cool-toned blue and lavender petals. The flower also has an eye-catching quality about it thanks to a vertical stalk that lends some height, drama, and a sort of sculptural feel.

The brand says its form “naturally draws the eye upward, mirroring a collective desire for growth, clarity, and renewed optimism.” We are so here for those vibes.
Green also notes that there’s “something grounding” about its blues. “They remind me of calm oceans and clear sky,” she continues. “Its height gives me a sense of momentum and encouragement. I love that it’s a flower that brings both peace and purpose, which is rare.”
In this “Cerulean Dreams” bouquet, pale roses, snapdragons, and other soft-hued blooms pair beautifully with the delphiniums.

This particular flower is nice in arrangements, offering a bit of contrast to everything else with its bold blue and purple color and unique shape. This lines up with trends we’re seeing in the floral space, where airy and sculptural arrangements are taking stage.
Like the money tree, it also carries some underlying symbolism tied to optimism and forward momentum. The brand says it’s the perfect choice for celebrations of growth, moments of healing, and life milestones.
