A UV flashlight is the best investment! You will find the caterpillars when they are small and before they can do maximum damage.

I get tomato hornworms in September and tobacco hornworms in October. I found a few almost every night for several weeks. One night it was rainy and I almost skipped it but went out anyway. I stopped counting at FOURTEEN on the first plant I checked.

I have sacrificial tomato plants for the worms in a separate area of my yard.
