The NGS disclosed in it’s annual impact report that it had raised a record amount, surpassing £3.87m from garden openings across the UK in 2025.

The donated funds have been allocated to a range of well-being projects and charities, aiding thousands of cancer and Parkinson’s patients, those grappling with mental health challenges, and unpaid carers.

The money raised not only supports nursing and health professionals but also extends to hundreds of health projects and community gardens.

Among these are 114 new gardens, which have been provided with Community Garden Grants, courtesy of the Julia Rausing Trust.

The donations also help nurture the welfare and training of gardeners, whose expertise is vital for maintaining the country’s horticulture.

The NGS has documented all the achievements made possible by the funds raised in its impact report.

With the shorter, darker winter days now settling in, the NGS suggested a variety of ways to boost general health and happiness.

One of their top suggestions is spending more time in gardens.

Between January and March 2026, a staggering 175 gardens will be opened under the NGS scheme, providing ample prospects for individuals to reap a multitude of health benefits.

Next year’s gardens have been listed online for eager visitors on the NGS website at findagarden.ngs.org.uk.

Alternatively, the National Garden Scheme Garden Visitor’s Handbook 2026 is now available for pre-order on the NGS website.

Looking ahead, 2027 will mark a special year for the NGS, as it celebrates its centenary year.

Originally set up in 1927 to aid district nurses, the NGS has contributed more than £74 million to some of the UK’s most beloved health, nursing, and gardening charities.

In Powys, they would love to celebrate this milestone by opening 100 gardens in honour of the hundred years of service.

Individuals interested in participating in the celebrations, including those who may wish to open their gardens, are being encouraged to make contact for further details.
