I have 3 Texas sages, all were planted at the same time next to my house. One seems to be struggling more than the other two. Two are next to a sprinkler and likely are getting more shade from an overhang coming off the house.

I have tried to compensate for the distance from the sprinkler by watering the struggling plant a little more.

I am wondering if its it getting too much water, not enough, too much sun, or what you all think may be the issue.

Too much water!! Yellow is a sure sign. These guys can survive on 15” a year, less than our average annual rainfall. Can supplement their first summer or two, but these guys don’t like to sit in wet soil for any extended time.

In my experience they don’t need any water. Like they’re damn near hydrophobic. I have a few 7′ tall ones In my front yard that I’ve never once watered.

The worst part of that very dry summer last year? When everything was brown and struggling? Mine hadn’t been watered and were thriving.

Suggest moving them away from the house. They will want to get big if they survive the wet conditions.

They need a lot more space! Less water. Be mean to them.

    Quit watering them. Problem solved.
