Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsany announced on Monday, December 8, 2025, that the trial operation of the Giza Zoo and the Orman Botanical Garden is expected to begin next year. The project focuses on providing a world-class recreational and cultural experience.
In statements to the Extra News channel, El-Homsany explained that the project’s master plan includes constructing a tunnel to connect the two gardens. He noted the connection will create the world’s largest combined park within a residential city area, significantly facilitating visitor access and increasing available green spaces.
The spokesperson emphasized that the development process will not compromise the historical character of the two gardens, both of which are over 150 years old.
El-Homsany affirmed that all archaeological and historic buildings, along with rare and ancient trees, are under strict protection. Restoration and development work is being conducted under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Supreme Council of Antiquities to ensure the preservation of the site’s rich heritage.
Regarding the animals’ current situation, El-Homsany reassured the public that they are being cared for by specialized experts and have been moved to safe temporary enclosures until construction is completed.
He pointed out that the development includes a radical change in how the animals are displayed. Cramped cages will be eliminated and replaced with open environments that mimic the animals’ natural habitat, ensuring their safety and providing visitors with a more enjoyable viewing experience.
