Mr. John Jones, 89, said he panicked when his neighbour knocked on his door in the dark to tell him one of his trees had fallen.
He initially thought she meant a smaller tree, before realising a much larger one had come down across the boundary.

He said: “She knocked on my door and said, ‘Your tree’s down.
“I thought she meant a little one. She said, ‘No, come and look.’ It was pitch black you couldn’t see anything.
“We only had a couple of torches. I’ve got quite a few trees behind there, so it was very concerning.”
On December 1, strong winds had swept through the area.

Mr Jones said: “It was about half past four or five.
“We get all the wind from the coast here. Everything blows, it was very windy.”
Living alone, Mr Jones said the incident left him frightened and unsure what to do.
He added: “It’s actually tragic.
“I live on my own, so when things like this happen, I panic. I am very old. The tree fell and came right across her garden.
“Then I panic, what do I do? Who do I call? I didn’t know what to do because I’ve never dealt with anything like this before.”

His neighbour, Marion Sampson, 76, was home when the tree came down and said the impact was sudden and alarming.
She said she heard a “loud thud” and rushed to her garden.
Marion said: “About ten minutes after it happened, I just heard a thud and thought it was my front gate.
“Then I went to close the blinds and thought, ‘Why are my plants all over the garden?’ I came downstairs and realised, it wasn’t a branch, it was the whole tree.”
“It’s a huge tree. I mean, it’s virtually taken out half my garden.”
Both neighbours say they are relieved no one was injured, but the damage has left them worried about future storms.
