Google has just released its Year in Search 2025 report, the annual snapshot of what the world was curious about this year. Alongside the usual web-search trends, the report also breaks down what people were looking up on Google Maps, highlighting the kinds of places that saw the biggest spikes in interest.
Before we get to the list, it’s worth understanding how Google defines a trend. In their own words, Year in Search doesn’t reflect the “most searched” places overall. Instead, it tracks what grew the fastest, ie the places and topics that saw the sharpest rise in searches compared to the previous year. Think of it as Google’s way of capturing the year’s momentum rather than its volume, highlighting not just the steady favourites, but the locations (or search queries) that suddenly got everyone’s attention.
For 2025, Google analysed Google Maps searches between January 1 and November 25, comparing them to the same period in 2024. This year, Google spotlighted three categories that saw the sharpest rise in interest on Maps: bookstores, transit stations, and botanical gardens. The gardens that appear in this list are therefore the top trending botanical gardens of the year, meaning the ones that climbed the fastest in global search interest on Maps.
And at first place is an Indian favourite: Lalbagh Botanical Garden in Bengaluru.
Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Karnataka, India
Bengaluru’s 240-acre Lalbagh has long been one India’s most significant green spaces, but this year it saw an unusually sharp rise in global attention. The garden, which dates back to the 18th century, is known for its centuries-old trees, rare plant species, and the iconic Glass House inspired by London’s Crystal Palace. Google’s data suggests that more travellers as well as locals were looking it up on Maps in 2025, pushing it to the top of the worldwide list.
