Time to clean those garden tools! I clean all the metal parts with water, vinegar, and 3-in-1 oil (only if they are really rusted). I buff away rust and dirt with steel wool, then oil all the metal parts and wooden handles with tung oil. I also sharpen the blades once or twice a year.

here’s how I clean all of my garden tools these are all of my cleaning supplies steel wool a hand sharpener three in-one oil tongue oil paper towels and vinegar if they’re not too dirty or you prefer a natural cleaner you can soak them in vinegar but I am notorious for leaving my tools out in the rain so I’m going to use a three in-1 oil to help clean up that rust these are pruners I use on food so I don’t like leaving that 3 in1 on there so I’m going to rinse them with soap and water and Pat them dry then I take a piece of steel wool and I buff all the metal parts and then I take my hand sharpener and make sure those blades are very very sharp then I add the tongue oil this is a more natural oil I feel comfortable leaving on the pruners I use a Q-tip to make sure I get in all the spaces of those moving Parts after I add the spring back on I make sure everything is moving smoothly especially that thumb catch sometimes it needs to be tightened and now my tools are clean shiny sharpened and ready for next season

I am very grateful for this video! Now I know that I can save my rusted garden tools. Ty
I definitely going to follow up this cleaning guide to be ready for next year 👍
🙏 THANK YOU
Incase you haven’t tried this method yet, You should definitely try filling a bucket with sand and add mineral oil to the sand. When you’re done using your tools for the day stick them in the sand a couple times. The sand cleans any debris or small amounts of rust off and the mineral oil will coat your tools keeping them clean, rust free and ready for their next use 👍
Nice, fyi, tung oil needs to be pure for food grade and it is a polymerizing oil so its great to protect wooden handles, but can gum up your joints. Try mineral oil or camellia oil, food safe non polymerizing and no oxidizing.
