Ahmedabad: Thieves stole the purse of a banker from her parked two-wheeler and later withdrew money using her ATM cards. The woman registered a complaint on Friday in this regard, leading police to launch a search for the thieves. The complainant, a resident of Vejalpur, is a clerk at a nationalised bank’s branch on SP Ring Road. She told police that on Nov 12, after returning home from work, she rode on her two-wheeler to a garden near Makarba for an evening walk. Parking the vehicle outside the garden, she took her phone from the storage compartment under the seat and left her purse. Around 6.55pm, she went to a photocopy shop near Vejalpur police chowki when she noticed that the compartment was open and her purse missing. The purse contained about Rs 10,000 in cash, ATM cards of two nationalised banks, her Aadhaar card, PAN card, driver’s licence, election card, her scooter’s RC book, and membership cards issued by her bank. A verification with the banks revealed that the thieves had used her ATM cards to withdraw Rs 25,000 from one bank and Rs 40,000 from another, bringing the total loss to Rs 75,000. CCTV footage from the area and bank transaction records are being examined to identify the accused.
