Orchids repotting to clay pebbles.

  1. Leca pebbles are fine for orchids, but:

You planted too deep, it might promote rotting.
If the pot has no drainage, you will kill the plant.

  2. There's a technique for orchids called "semi hydroponic". The secret for preventing root rotting is to not let the roots touch the water that builds on the lower part of the vase. They're usually planted in leca or pebbles. Slowly they'll grow roots that are adapted to water.

  5. I grow orchids with great success in both semi and full hydroponic conditions, this one shown here is going to rot and die. The positioning is key, the stem and upper roots must be able to breathe. Only the lower portion of the longer roots need to touch water. But it’s good to see hydroponic growing being promoted!

  7. I had never grown any orchids because I thought they were too delicate.I"ve got 5 and have lost only one dur to over watering. I've gone back to the recommended method of 3 ice once weekly….an no more problems. I've even had one reboot. Affter we finish moving I'm going to star propagating in Rice and feeding them banana and garlic infused water. I've been watching when Walmart and Lowes mark them doen after holidays getting them for $10 or less.
