What is going on with my zebrina alocasia?? It started looking like this about a month ago but now it’s gotten worse. I know the edges are sun scald but I can’t figure out what these weird marks are all over the middle part of the leaf.

I could be wrong but it looks like a pest problem

It looks like a pretty intense thrips infestation…

ETA: With a side of spider mites as well. I think I saw some webbing after zooming in.

I have tremendous issues with spider mites with my alocasias. I can tell when they’re back because the leaves look similar

Absolutely, undoubtedly, 100% spider mites, my friend. I find that Insecticidal Super Soap works for me, but if you have a large collection, beneficial predators are your best friend! You could look into Koppert or NaturesGoodGuys. It’s a toss up on what you hear from folks, some prefer one company and hate the other, some are indifferent. Whatever you do, you need to treat the entire area 💕

I would start by spraying and wiping with insecticidal soap. I’ve also found using alcohol wipes kills on contact and will help kill off the spider mite population. That will help until your beneficial insects arrive. Check to make sure they won’t go thru any of this super cold weather we’re having if you’re in the U.S. Lastly, just in case you have some thrips in the mix, use systemic granules in the soil and water it in. Systemic doesn’t kill spider mites because they’re aracnoids but it does kill thrips, mealies, etc.
If you have a large collection, you’re going to need beneficial insects. Most of all, good luck to you & keep us updated! 🪴🌵💚
