Accordina to American lore, the shape of a persimmon seed's insides are supposed to foretell the tvpe of winter we are going to have. The insides can develop into 3 separate utensil shapes, a spoon shape (as shown) indicates a snowy winter. A fork shape indicates a mild winter and a knife shape indicates a bitter, cutting cold winter ahead. Taken from a persimmon I grew in Charlotte, NC. less

These are Asian persimmons, right? The American persimmons I’ve seen have only one shape of seed, like a thick pumpkin seed.

I sure hope so. We’ve lacked proper snow cover for most of the last few decades’ winters (northeastern WI).
So far we’ve had a good start…knock on wood.

I can confirm I have more snow than the last two years at least by this time (Alberta, Canada).

We desperately need the snow for insulation against the cold weather and the moisture when it melts because we’ve been having worse droughts as the years go on with snowpack feeding the spring runoff decreasing year over year for decades.

Please continue predicting more snow little persimmon seeds.

  4. all this tells me is theres appalachian folk witches in my gardening sub

Yes i felt it earlier this summer, i cant put my finger on it but i predicted we were going to have a ‘classic’ winter. Then in the fall the acorn trees were overflowing dropping thousands on one old tree, it made me think the tree even knew and was helping feed the animals for winter. Maybe its something to do with society, people learn more and in small ways change their habits that have huge impacts

It snowed TWICE in Arkansas this past week….. that is very abnormal

are your teeth supposed to feel fuzzy after eating a persimmon?

  8. Specific_Acadia_2271

Well the persimmon is right. Here in the Midwest we got pelted and got more coming

As an Iowan, I agree with your tomato. We got record breaking snow last week, due for 6″ tonight and another 5″ later this week.

All the deer I’ve harvested so far have been absolutely *packed* with suet fat. This is gonna be a cold one for sure.

Amazing! What kind of persimmon tree do you have?

Serious question. If I were to send you a pre-addressed prepaid USPS shipping label when spring comes around, would you be willing to send me a cutting? Ideally for free or low-cost, but we can chat about that.

I am serious. I love persimmons.

Northern Kentucky hit a new record daily high for snowfall this past week. This is about a month early for our typical snowfall.

Also the thickness of onion skins and spider silk threads

I saw a wooly worm that was all black. No brown.

    Spoons in the persimmons.

Gonna be a snowy one for sure

My dumbass thought that was a tomato and I was like that’s weird. Than I read the rest. 😆

Hello fellow Charlotteon! I can only hope this is true about the snow. I still dream about the 2013? 2014? Snow storm we had that blasted us with over a foot of snow and stayed on the ground for multiple days. It was so much fun!

  18. SweetPiee1

Cool! According to folklore, your spoon-shaped persimmon seed means a snowy winter ahead

Here’s hoping! I’m in central MD and we have had below normal snow for six straight years. Hoping for some good snow this winter
