Trebah Garden, located near Falmouth, was featured in a seasonal round-up by Bloom & Wild, which listed family-friendly gardens across the UK offering immersive outdoor experiences during the colder months.

Known for its subtropical landscape, Trebah offers four miles of winding paths through lush planting that lead down to a private beach, making it a destination for visitors year-round.

Spokesperson for Bloom & Wild said: “Just because the days are shorter and the weather cooler, family-friendly adventures don’t have to stick indoors.

“While gardens might not immediately seem exciting for children in winter, many UK gardens now offer interactive and festive trails, child-friendly activities, and wildlife spotting opportunities, making them perfect for seasonal outdoor adventures.”

During the winter season, Trebah Garden hosts two festive attractions.

Visitors can meet Santa in a cosy log cabin for a storytelling session, while Mrs Claus leads a wreath-making workshop.

A highlight for families in 2025 will be the new Where’s Rudhy?! Christmas Trail, which guides children through the garden with gingerbread-themed riddles and clues to find Rudhy, a gingerbread figure (“rudh” meaning ginger in Cornish).

The garden also offers winter bloom displays, including Camellias along Radiata and Petry’s Paths.

These include the 90-year-old Camellia sasanqua ‘Crimson King’ as well as other fragrant varieties such as ‘Dazzler’ and ‘Hugh Evans’.

Along Fox Path, Mahonia × media ‘Charity’ adds a splash of seasonal yellow, while the Bamboozle area features structural bamboo varieties like Fargesia papyrifera and the striped Himalayacalamus falconeri ‘Damarapa’.

Bloom & Wild offered tips for families visiting gardens in winter, including arriving early, packing a winter scavenger hunt, dressing in layers, and alternating between active and restful moments.

They also encouraged visitors to check for seasonal events, set nature-themed mini challenges, and make the experience hands-on with sketching and photography.

Other gardens featured in the round-up include Dunham Massey Winter Garden in Greater Manchester, Anglesey Abbey in Cambridgeshire, RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey, and the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.

Each garden offers its own winter highlights, from snowdrop walks to child-friendly festive trails and after-dark illuminations.
