hey beginner gardeners here’s some tips for starting seeds indoors growing your own seedlings is not only coste effective but it’s really rewarding there is a little bit of a learning curve however so here’s some things that can help you be more successful check the age of your seeds seeds don’t really expire but their ability to germinate or Sprout will decline the older they get you can absolutely start seeds in sifted potting mix or even mix up your own but for beginners I recommend using a sterile seed starting mix check the seed packet for how deep that seed needs to be planted if you plant small seeds too deep they won’t have enough energy to push up through that mix some seeds actually require light for germination so they’re just sprinkled on top or lightly covered unless you’re starting large seeds like beans peas or sunflowers that will germinate and grow quickly start your seeds in smaller cells and then transplant or pot up as those seedlings grow if you plant smaller seeds in large containers that mix will have a hard hard time drying out between watering and it can cause issues like root rot in small seedlings with small Roots moisten your seed starting mix before planting the seeds then you can cover them with a humidity Dome or you can cover with a fine layer of vermiculite and Mist them daily until you see them Sprout if your seeds dry out while they’re germinating they’ll stop growing follow for tips on how to care for your new seedlings
