The popularity of indoor plants is on the rise, and it’s no wonder because they’re so good for our health!
Indoor plants provide physical and mental benefits, including improved air quality, reduced stress, and even increased productivity. They purify the air by absorbing toxins, and can boost our mood, enhance our focus and concentration, and create a relaxed environment.
Deb Tribe and Sophie Thomson on ABC Radio Adelaide’s Talkback Gardening asked to see the best photographs of YOUR indoor greenery, with the chance to win some great gardening prizes.
There was such a range of entries, from your beloved pets to nurtured plants, some incredible innovations in how to maximise space with ledges, shelves, and hanging racks from the ceiling to allow more room for plants, and many indoor jungles!!
Let’s explore the gallery of greenery!
WINNER: Kelly Ellbourn from Port Elliot
“My precious ‘pink’ paradise!! A place to sit to enjoy my morning cuppa tea or just to watch my garden grow! My happy place.”
The best photograph will win the beautiful book “The Plant Book: The ultimate guide to thriving houseplants” by Gardening Australia’s Tammy Huynh.
Runner-ups: (We chose eight – instead of four like promised – because they were all so good!)
Michelle Wells from North Brighton
“I love my indoor garden, most of which are thriving in water. Some in tiny handmade glass tubes set in driftwood, to large glass pots.
The only problem is that mosquito larvae also enjoy my watery garden, and often in summer, my family comments on the subsequent mosquitoes as my propagation children!”
Kathy (Kathryn) Royans from Glengowrie
“Our home is brimming with light and green energy from our 110 indoor plants, but when it comes to taking the best photo, its like a Mother having to choose her favourite child.
My Mum passed on to me her love of all things green and I’m thankful every day for that blessing.
This is my special corner in our living area.”
James Henriks from Underdale
“My Devils Ivy (epipremnum aureus) grows in the space between my kitchen and family room with light from a skylight and windows in the family room.
“It is over 15 years old and 4 metres wide. Plus the wooden trellis is handmade!
Brittany McEvoy from Mount Gambier West
“My sister and I have been creating this indoor jungle together over the past five years.
The prized possession is the double trunk Fiddle Leaf Fig, which just sprouted five new leaf shoots. We love our little indoor oasis!”
Glenda Spry from Crystal Brook
“I love my indoor plants….and I don’t kill too many!
“Sometimes I shift them for photo shoots, but they usually each have special places in our home.
“I like to propagate and share cuttings with friends.”
Elena/Kim Gilbert
“I’m well into my 90s, but can no longer garden due to arthritis.
“My Phalaenopsis Orchids give me a lot of joy as every year they produce stunning spikes.
“My secret is a west-facing aspect, judicious watering and orchid food.
“Sophie, I used to listen to you at the local library.”
Angela Walsh from Younghusband
“This is a statement plant and ridiculously easy to care for.
I love its huge, lush, emerald green leaves, and the fact that it’s drama-free makes it the indoor plant of your dreams.
It’s big, beautiful and gives out good vibes and clean air.”
Kain So from Kurralta Park
“A curious ginger cat sits beside a bright, lush terrarium filled with vibrant tropical plants and striking orange blooms.
“Soft daylight highlights the cat’s wide-eyed expression and the glass bowl’s vivid greenery, creating a calm, cozy, and enchanting indoor scene.”
Winners were announced on air during Saturday Breakfast’s Talkback Gardening on the 6th December 2025.
