A 32-year-old man with a previous felony conviction pleaded guilty Thursday and was immediately sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for shooting two people in Garden Grove seven years ago.
Thuan Van Nguyen got into a fight that escalated into the shooting May 22, 2018, outside of a cafe-restaurant in the 10000 block of Westminster Avenue, according to Garden Grove Police Department Sgt. Nick Jensen.
Nguyen ran away, but he left “identifying information behind,” which led to his arrest, according to Jensen.
Two victims were hospitalized following the shooting, Jensen said.
Nguyen pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a semiautomatic gun, and possession of a gun by a felon, all felonies. He also admitted sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a gun and inflicting great bodily injury on the victims.
Nugyen was sentenced to 22 years and four months in prison, according to court records.
Nugyen, who was extradited from New Mexico, has been in custody in Orange County Jail since May 2, 2023.
