Monty Don has received an outpouring of support from his followers after posting a heartfelt tribute to his dog, Nell. The Gardeners’ World presenter, who regularly updates his life on Instagram, shared a touching photograph of his dog, Ned, alongside Nell, who died in 2023.

The BBC presenter simply wrote beneath the image, “This day 3 years ago.”

Monty was flooded with messages of sympathy from his supporters, with many recounting their own experiences of loss.

One follower wrote, “We all miss Nellie so much.”

Another said, “My goodness, always so joyful but always so hard, Sir Monty…I lost my fur baby of 18 years, and the pain is like a huge hole…we know it heals, but it takes so much time…I’m still mourning Nigel,” reports the Express.

A third responded, “Monty, thank you for showing us all such beautiful memories. Nigel and Nellie are together watching over you and Ned and little Patti, rest in great happiness, Nigel & Nell.”

Another supporter continued, “Such gorgeous faces, you cannot beat a dog’s friendship.”

Reflecting on their own bereavement, one follower remarked, “I still greatly miss the four cats I’ve had in the past. My first cat passed in 2003.”

This marks the second tribute Monty has posted lately, having commemorated another milestone.

Posting an endearing picture of himself cuddled up with Nell, he stated, “On this day 10 years ago, Nellie came into my life. I still miss her very much.”

After receiving a cancer diagnosis in June 2023, Nellie passed away peacefully in October 2023. She was laid to rest next to Monty’s other dog, Nigel, in the garden of their Longmeadow home.

During an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live at the time, Monty shared that he had wrapped Nellie in one of his own jackets and included her favourite biscuits before burying her.

“There’s now a space where her bed was,” Monty expressed emotionally. “And the fact, she would come when I was eating and press her head against my knee.

“She used to have a particular bark when she was excited about food.”
