Grew saffron for the first time this fall and it went pretty great! I've always heard about digging up bulb plants for the winter and keeping them in a cool, dry place. What I'm not sure is if I should leave the growth on top or remove it before storing them, I got a wooden box that I'll fill with peat moss and then store in my garage.

If your saffron still has green leaves, leave them where they are. Those grassy little blades are feeding the corms all winter, and that energy is what gives you flowers next fall. They’ll turn yellow and dry out on their own by spring, and that’s the time to clear them away.
This is the first time I heard this advice. You can leave the bulbs in the ground over winter, safron is a frost hardy perennial. Get those bulbs back in the ground asap and give them a good watering.
I am zone 7. I leave mine in the ground year round. Never read about pulling them up. Leaving them in the ground allows their bulb to mature and multiply. I only dig them up to spread them out more.
We planted saffron for the first time this fall (zone 5a) and thought you could just leave them in? Definitely not gonna work out for the ones I planted if you’re supposed to dig them up before winter lol.

Saffron flowers in the autumn and keeps its leaves until spring. Goes dormant in summer and comes back in autumn.
You guys know way more about saffron than I do. Is there any chance of growing it in hotter climates?
Saffron grows in the winter and is dormant in the summer, put them back in the ground
You only want to dig them up while they’re dormant in the spring, and only when they need to be divided. That’s only every 3-5 years.
Aren’t saffron crocus fall and winter blooming? If you want to store them, I think you will want to wait until the green dies off otherwise they may not have enough energy to flower next year.
Leave the bulbs in the ground with the green attached.
