HIAWATHA, Iowa — Registration opens Saturday, Dec. 6, for the Linn County Master Gardeners’ annual Winter Gardening Fair, a full day of research-based horticulture education scheduled for Feb. 21, 2026, at the Kirkwood Linn Regional Center.

Hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach’s Linn County Master Gardener program, the event offers more than 75 classes led by Master Gardeners, industry professionals and Iowa State University horticulture specialists. Attendees may choose six sessions throughout the day, with additional hands-on projects, horticulture displays and vendor exhibits available.

Interest in home gardening has climbed in recent years, and organizers say the fair provides reliable guidance and a chance to connect with gardeners of all experience levels.

Early-bird registration is $75 through Jan. 2, 2026. Regular admission is $85, and high school and college students may register for $42. Last year’s fair drew more than 400 participants and sold out.

This year’s presenters include Garden Gate magazine, Seed Savers Exchange, Monarch Watch and the Xerces Society. The event is sponsored by Cedar River Garden Center, Ever-Green Landscape Construction Supply, Natural Grocers, Cassill Motors, Forever Green, and Hills Bank and Trust Company. Tuition includes morning coffee, snacks and lunch.

The Linn County Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who provide science-based education and support local food access efforts. In 2025, volunteers grew and donated more than 15,000 pounds of produce to area food pantries. Proceeds from the Winter Gardening Fair help fund these initiatives, along with free and low-cost programs offered in care centers, schools and community groups.
