I’m about to pot up tubers for cuttings and I wanted to gauge interest in different unicorns as I try to decide which varieties to give the most room in my (not very large) grow room. I know some people hate posts like this because they don’t want other people hunting their unicorns, BUT the benefit here is I will grow more of the ones you want the most 🙂‍↕️ I really appreciate any input! And feel free to include any that I haven’t mentioned, if I included all the varieties I think *should* be unicorns this list would have been too long 😂

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:

When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!

*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).

If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.

If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

Salish twilight girl is one that I’ve been eyeing

From your photos, my favorite is Cinder Rose. However, I don’t have the money to spend on unicorns. 😟

Fortunately, there are sooooooo many others out there from wonderful farms that I have absolutely no shortage of choices!

    Have fun!

I grew both BQ Blush and Oriti Adele this year, and I think Oriti Adele edged out BQ Blush for me. BQ Blush is so subtle in person.

Kelgai Ann is just a stunner.

  5. I have not grown myself, but I have heard positive things about Cinder Rose for cut flowers.

Cinder Rose and CdlB are still in high demand. I might add some Hollyhill and Sandia water lilies to your list. I love Barbarry Dominion, but not sure how popular it is. My personal unicorn for this year is Miss Anne Francis- more farms have her this year, but I’m trying to keep my expectations low.

Fawn, Kelgai, Chateau, Hapet, and Salish. With the caveat that you can visually confirm there are no clear signs of DMV on new growth prior to shipping, as that seems to be a more common issue with the waterlily form.

Lmk if you saved/are thinking about offering seeds for any of the waterlily types? That mix of seeds would be my personal unicorn atm. 🥰🙏🏼
