The application lodged by a Main Street resident has requested permission to reduce the size of the picea abies, or Norwegian Spruce, by up to a quarter.
Plans stated the tree was planted in the garden near a boundary wall after Christmas and the pruning would protect it from potentially breaking.
They added the crowning would be carried out by a qualified tree surgeon and overseen by an experienced horticulturalist.

Plans stated: “This tree was planted out in the garden many years ago, it has now developed well and is close to the boundary edge.
“Crown reduction is now needed up to around 20 to 25 per cent, this will ensure it remains safe.
“The tree appears to be in good order and this action will ensure it remains in situ for the foreseeable future.”
Permission is required from the council to crown the tree due to it being in a conservation area.
