In 2024, the German gardening market saw a two-pronged development. While the sales area of the top 20 garden market operators increased by 1.0 percent overall, the garden sales area of the top 3 hardware store chain operators (Obi, Toom/B1/Klee, Bauhaus) declined by around 2.5 percent. At the same time, the sales area of the top three DIY store cooperatives (Hagebau, Bauvista, Eurobaustoff) increased by 4.8 percent, that of the top three garden center chain operators (Dehner, Blumen Risse, Pflanzen-Kölle) by 3.3 percent, and that of the top three garden center cooperatives (Sagaflor, Ekaflor, Egesa-Zookauf) increased by 2.0 percent.

With a combined total of over 1.76 million m² of garden retail space, the top three DIY store operators are still by far the largest operators in the German garden sector, but last year’s decline of 2.5 percent was the sharpest decline in their combined sales area since 2010. The next largest decline occurred in 2013, at minus 1.8 percent.

The evaluation comes from Dähne Infodienst, where it was published in detail.
