Hello, my name is Lynn Gillespie and this week on the High Performance Garden Show Nuggets, we share with you how to naturally control earwigs in the garden. Here’s a clip from the show. So, today I’d like to share with you how to naturally rid your garden of earwigs. Now, earwigs can be a real problem because they eat your lettuce, your corn silks, uh flowers, and more. So, if you’re not sure if you have earwigs um that are damaging your garden, go out at night with a flashlight and check the garden because they like to eat your plants at night. So, lucky for us, there are several organic and natural ways to eliminate them. If your garden is really infested, I would go ahead and apply several methods for 3 weeks to bring the population down quickly. So, here’s my top four ways that I like to get after those earwigs. So number one is earwig traps. So earwigs like dark type places to hide in during the day. So you want to just lay out some corrugated cardboard out in the garden where you have earwig damage and the earwigs will climb into the cardboard and then they will hide there during the day. So then you want to just collect up the cardboard and dispose of it. All right. Number two is dietimmacous earth. So dietimmacous earth is ground up fossilized seashells and the dietmacous earth will work its way up into the joints of the earwigs causing them to dehydrate and die. So you want to sprinkle that about the garden. If it gets wet then you want to uh reapply the diet tomatious earth and you want it to where the earwigs will be walking through it. All right. Number three is garlic oil spray. You use this for control over aphids, cabbage loopers, earwigs, June bugs, leaf hoppers, squash bugs, and white flies. So, you want to mince one bulb of garlic and soak it in two teaspoons of mineral oil for 24 hours. Next, mix one pint of water with one tablespoon of liquid soap. And then add the garlic mixture to the water and the soap. So, you’re going to mix this thoroughly, strain out the garlic pieces, and then place this in a jar for storage. Then, you’re going to use one to two tablespoons of a garlic oil mix to two cups of water. And you want to spray this on the plant covering all leaf surfaces. All right, number four is Lego Plus, which is an organic listed product that has iron, phosphate, and spinad as the active ingredients, and it’s effective on earwigs. and it comes in a pellet form. You want to sprinkle that on the garden uh probably every week. Be consistent and on top of your pest control for 3 weeks until you break their breed cycle. Then just monitor the population and reinstate your elimination program if needed. And be sure to check for earwigs early in the season and get them before they start breeding. So this clip is from the High Performance Garden Show year 10 week 11.
