This magnificent veteran oak is in Silkeborg, Denmark. It survived centuries of storms and human history, only to face its toughest challenge yet, the pressure of a sidewalk and a wall. This old preservation-worthy vintage trees rarely die from chainsaws. They die of our misunderstandings.
The European Tree Protection Standard (ETPS) sets clear requirements for how we protect the root zones of trees, both before, during and after construction. Yet we see time and time again that this knowledge is overlooked in practice.
An old tree's root system is extremely vulnerable to changes in soil structure, compaction, moisture, and oxygen supply. It is not about slowing down development – but about ensuring that it becomes smarter, greener and more future-proof.
Build with respect for the roots.

I don’t understand how people deny that humans are ecologically the worst species to ever exist on this planet
That magnificent organism deserves more space.
It deserves the right to live, and provide benefit to the community.
In fact, it’s construction that threatens the trees, not the other way around.
