What can I plant/set up to make this corner atleast somewhat attractive? It’s currently muddy thanks to a giant hole the dog dug. And the kids then played in….
Pavers are just to keep the dog from escaping (she’s really good at that). Otherwise this corner was just grass. Not too much sun, it does get buggy because circulation isn’t good thanks to the fence. Very close to my neighbors and don’t want total shade. Any ideas? Zone 8b (coastal).

You could do a raised planter with some herbs or greens.
Expand the existing bed, fill in with pebbles and add 2 more rows of plants. No trees, just medium sized plants intended to be about the height of the fence alternating with 3-5′ plants with contrasting texture. Be sure to buy plants that need the same amount of water as the existing grass for easier care. Go with shrubs or large perennials that won’t get too large when grown without much trimming.
Attempt to thwart Houdini by proactively putting pavers under the fence where you are extending the planting bed.
Golf range with net or putting area. If you don’t golf, dog sh1t zone
Garden benches, a bbq area, sandbox with raised planters (dog fence around), a single fruiting shrub/dwarf tree (dog friendly) or if you give some ideas of what y’all are into and would enjoy maintaining I could give other ideas.
