found several clumps of brown, seed-like pieces sitting on top of the soil in a few of my plant pots.

Each clump looks like a cluster of flat, shiny seed fragments stuck together, and they appeared suddenly.

Does anyone know what this could be?

Is it something natural in the soil, or could it be from a pest or an animal?

I have no clue, but I bet on animal poop. Which, if so, is actually beneficial to your plants, besides all the seeds that come with it. But if the seeds germinate you can just pluck them out anyway.

I’m assuming these pots are outdoor. It’s either animal scat, or someone trying to dispose of a failed attempt at a chocolate/flaxseed homemade energy ball.

It looked like a really bad scale infestation, but it’s not on the plant itself, then you broke it up and now I think something took a dump in your plants.

They resemble katydid eggs as well as flax, but katydid eggs are usually laid in a row, rather than a clump. I’m assuming it’s scat, too, regardless of the contents.

Looks like an animal ate fruit with a bunch of seeds and shat them out.

OK story is over my roommate just threw flax seeds on the plants cause she asked chatgpt if it’s good for them. lol sorry for the drama

At least the other house human wasn’t pooping the seeds in there. NGL that’s exactly what I thought happened 😆🤷‍♀️

Do you have trypophobia (fear of clusters of bumps or holes)?

In the infamous words of my GI doctor during my colonoscopy…that’s poop.
