Looks like you’re SoCal from the license plates? Go for some low-flow natives like Mexican Sage, any colorful salvias or ice berg roses – or all of them together. Forms a bit of low barrier hedge, adds color, smells nice, curb appeal, birds, bees, low maintenance.
Otherwise go with succulents- very easy, low-flow and can be beautiful/colorful if you plant them thoughtfully. Once you start looking you can get free cuttings from lots of places – you don’t have to buy them all at once so can add as you find and propagate your own. Facebook Marketplace has people giving them away free in my area.

I filled mine with concrete for extra parking. Never have to worry about it again. It that’s out of your range, fill it with mulch and drought tolerant plants.

If you want a space for trash bins, put them in front of the gate hidden from the street by bird of paradise from Costco. Wait a month for Costco to carry all things garden and plants.
