Good morning everyone!
I'm hoping you all can help me out. A few months ago, i had a large hedge removed from my front yard. The company that did the removal could only level off the base of the hedge because it's likely overlapping with roots with a nearby tree. Now i have little growths from the hedge popping up. Anyway to kill the hedge permanently without rushing damage to the tree?

Picture included is of the little growths with the base of the now removed hedge. You can see the base of the tree in the background.

Just keep trimming the new growths. Eventually it will run out of resources and die. Safest way to deal with it and not hurt the tree

You need to get to the root of the problem.

Or cover with multiple sheets of cardboard and cover that with mulch.

As someone else wrote, you can keep cutting the growth until it gives up & dies. Alternately, you can paint the stumps with brush killer. Apply it with a brush, don’t spray because drifting spray can damage other plants. Another approach is to build a small fire pit around the stumps with bricks, dump in a bag of charcoal briquettes, and burn them out. It’s very effective but you have to be sure the fire doesn’t spread underground.

Should’ve had them removed altogether at once rather than half measures

Just keep cutting as others said. The roots only have so much energy to push new growth, with out leave to photosynthesis no new energy is produced. Much like a battery, if it can’t charge it will eventually die. Don’t allow leaves to push out.

If the roots are still there you didn’t remove them just cut them back and nature will do it thing. Btw that explanation they gave you about overlapping roots it’s BS. They could have removed them, I’ve personally done it. It’s just a tedious job
