ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) – Wellfield Botanic Gardens opened its annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Lights display on Friday, marking the ninth year for the illuminated event.

The display features 1.8 million lights throughout the gardens. Last year, more than 25,000 guests attended the light show.

The half-mile walk along the main promenade includes hot cocoa for visitors at the Navarre Catering and Events tent.

“Our horticulture staff is probably out here every day putting up lights; making sure all of them are on and running properly and as this is out opening night, we’re incredibly proud of all the lights that we have,” said Jen Tan, marketing and communications manager for Wellfield Botanic Gardens.

Kurt Dreisilker, executive director of Wellfield Botanic Gardens, said the event brings the community together.

“So, this is important because it brings the community together and that is really what Wellfield stands for, we bring the community together every day,” Dreisilker said.

The Winter Wonderland will be open on the following dates: November 28, 29; December 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30; and January 2, 3.
