I’m going to need to do something similar if I keep getting rats from the trash heap of a house next to mine

Are the holes small enough? They can fit through some mighty tight spaces…

  4. I built a similar, but bigger version of this earlier this year due to my local squirrels. Its 3 fence panels wide (approx 25ft long by 6ft deep by 6ft tall) with one door (on the left). In the right are two portable versions (18″ tall x 3ft wide x 5ft long) for my sweet potatoes. I’m hoping to extend the squirrel cage to include that corner section in the spring, so I can get rid of the portable covers. Its 2×4’s & 2×2’s covered in chicken wire, the vertical posts are attached to bricks sitting on the ground so it can be a non-permanent structure but still be very sturdy, its attached to the fence with a dozen screws & way too many staples.

That is beautifully done. Adding temporary plastic wrap would also turn it into a cold frame to extend the growing season. Very nice.

Squirrels around here would chew right thru that if wanted to get in there. Chew the metal twist off the fences, coaxial cables, siding, and even chewed the cover off of our STEEL JUNCTION BOX. It’s crazy and maddening. I love animals, but had to resort to a pellet gun as I couldn’t keep up relocating them all. Got 23 a few summers back.

umarex notos carbine black friday 240 bucks, works way better then these vegetable prisons

  10. My neighbor got a motion sensor and hooked it up to one of those impulse sprinklers. So when a squirrel or other critter raccoon whatever trips the motion sensor you get Psht! Psht! Psht!

She tells me it worked well.
