Went to collect seaweed at low tide for Thanksgiving and found an abundance. Very grateful. If you’re near the coast, don’t miss out on this incredible resource, it’s very worth the effort. I use it for compost, mulching and for fermenting. I’ve been doing this for about 15 years and it’s easily my favorite resource. I don’t wash the salt off as others do and I’ve never noticed any adverse effects.

Lucky you! I often paid for seaweed compost
I’ve got to take advantage of this too. Thanks for the post!
I did forget to add that if you’re going to go collect, observe your local low tide times. This makes it easy to have better success collecting and the seaweed has drained somewhat, as the seaweed fresh out of the water has more weight thus much heavier. Never harvest live seaweed from rocks, just the seaweed collected by the tide.
Very envious, have always wanted some.
Is it true you have to rinse it off multiple times to get rid of the salt?
