An added feature of the annual Holiday House Tour put on by the Garden Club of Long Beach Island is the boutique. This year it can be found at the Surf City Firehouse on Dec. 10 and 11 at 10 a.m., and it’s open to the public, no house tour tickets required for entry – besides, they’re sold out! Find out how to get on the wait list at thegardencluboflbi.com.
Boutique goers will enter a glittering scene filled with holiday food, gifts and greenery. The creative garden club members, as part of the 58th tour, have been hard at work weaving fresh greens into swags, baskets and bouquets, according to publicity chair Gillian Rozicer.
“These same ladies baked day and night to sweeten your holiday with soft and crunchy cookies, packed prettily for gift giving,” Rozicer noted. “Fill your house with the fresh fragrance of pine, cedar and juniper decorations accented with holiday fruits and flowers. Charming baskets, pottery in simple shapes or elaborately decorated, sparkling glass bowls and vases are perfect centerpieces.
“Beautiful swags for staircases, doorways, entrances and windows bring inside the color and scent of winter,” she continued. “Ribbons in soft and shiny fabrics are the perfect touch for trees and tables.”
Homemade cookies are hallmarks of the holiday season, and “club members are taking their best recipes, loading up on butter and eggs, donning their aprons and piling up cookies to sell in packages and trays,” Rozicer said. Think elegant almond crescents, amusing gingerbread, luscious chocolate and sugar stars.
If beach-inspired gifts are on the shopping list, 11 local shops will be represented at the boutique, offering unique and handmade designs, artsy fashion, paintings of local scenes, distinctive jewelry, LBI items, ornaments, wall hangings and books. —V.F.
