They're growing out of the pebbles in our backyard. It recently rained heavily for a few days in SoCal if that helps?

  1. Grey morel—highly sought after for cooking/eating!

Some of the most expensive mushrooms on the planet – $30-$60 fresh and $500/lb dried.

If they are morels – and PLEASE get a positive ID from someone other than an internet stranger – be aware that you have to cook them. They are toxic when raw.

How are those growing this time of year?!

Cut in half lengthwise. If it’s hollow, you’re good.

  7. 100% morels.  Is there anything nearby it might be growing off?  If you only have a few id leave them alone and see if they come back with more next year

I had morels in my garden and they gave me
Good pointers on what to look for

It should be hollow from stem all the way up to the tippy top of the mushroom… But definitely check online to make sure that you have a true morel.

Grew up hunting Morels in eastern Nebraska. It’s easy to make a few thousand bucks every year just hunting and selling these on marketplace. Well, as long as you know where to look 😉

Last year I brought in nearly 100 pounds and sold them at $50 per pound fresh. The craziest part is how fast they sell, they literally won’t be on marketplace for longer than 10 minutes before you have dozens of pounds sold.

Possibly a very sought after mushroom delicacy (morels). Also possibly a quick way to the hospital. I’d avoid the latter by learning about and confirming the former.

Looks like morels, but they do look kind of sickly. If you cut in half, and it’s hollow, it most likely is. They are generally highly sought after, and need to be well cooked, but I wouldn’t eat those ones; in general because it’s best to be certain, and specifically because those specimens look unwell. Nevertheless, a cool thing to have growing.

Looks like morels to me. We have them growing in our yard

sick looking morels… and like 🤮 sick in the not great way as opposed to ⚡️🔥💥S I C K 💥🔥⚡️ (does a kick flip) way.

Edit to say: The color is very, very grey in this picture and few grey “edible” things are actually a wise to eat. So I say sick because even IF they are real morels, that doesn’t make them morels you wanna eat, you know? like you can grow any sort of fruit or vegetable that is technically edible, but it’s not the wisest choice to each the veggie that grows from run-off water in your local ditch

Morel mushrooms. They cost a fortune.

I walk my ass through miles of woods for those. Just make sure they are hollow in the middle. Delicious fried in litter and flour.

What general part of SoCal was this found in?
