Last week, the Bicycle Coalition and members of the Circuit Trails Coalition attended the Fall 2025 Spring Garden Connector Open House. The Spring Garden Street Connector aims to link two Circuit Trails along the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers in Philadelphia. The Connector is part of a larger network, the East Coast Greenway, a walking and biking route stretching 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida, connecting our nation’s most populated corridor. The Open House, which welcomed over 100 guests, was held to receive comments on the preliminary engineering design for this important multi-use trail connection in Philadelphia.

The Spring Garden Street Connector has received funding for both design and construction. The design phase is funded through private grants from the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the William Penn Foundation. In 2025, $52 million was secured through the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to fund construction (FY25–FY28). The project timeline is below:

With funding in place, the project is now advancing toward construction. The new design will include improvements for people walking, rolling, biking, driving, and riding transit. Improvements include:

Curb bump-outsTraffic signal upgradesUtilities & green stormwater infrastructureParking separated bike lanesLighting upgradesResurfacing & restriping

See below for the proposed improvements along a number of intersections along the corridor:
